International Writers' Fellowships

The Faculty of Creative Arts has joined forces with three Universities in the UK and USA to offer Australian writers the opportunity to promote their work on the international stage. The program targets writers who are well regarded in Australia but whose work is as yet unknown internationally.The Univerisities of Kingston, Norwich and Iowa will host the fellows, providing them with access to writers, academics and readers. Fellows will also spend time at UOW, giving students the opportunity to hear about their working and writing lives.

FAC Classes Announced for 2013!

2013 Schedule 
Poetry at the Fremantle Arts Centre
Shane McCauley commences the Poetry Class at the Fremantle Arts Centre on Friday, 18th January, 2013. This class concentrates on the form, enabling new, progressive and established poets to enhance their poetic writing skills, knowledge and technique.
Shane is an award-winning poet with eight collections of poetry, including his 2012 chapbook Ghost Catcher. He is an erudite teacher, having taught at Edith Cowan University, Tafe and seven years at the Fremantle Arts Centre.

Prose at the Fremantle Arts Centre
Helen Hagemann commences the Prose Class at the Fremantle Arts Centre for 2013 on Friday, 8th February, returning with "Worldwide Short Fiction". This series will inspire writers to learn the techniques of short story writing by looking at the best writers/ new writers of short fiction from all over the globe incl. Anton Chekhov, Edgar Allan Poe, Raymond Carver, Ernest Hemingway, Delmore Schwartz, William Faulkner, Gabriel García Márquez, Franz Kafka, John Shirley, David Malouf, Katharine Mansfield, Christina Stead, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Geraldine Mills, and many more.

Venue: Fremantle Arts Centre, 1 Finnerty St. Fremantle
Room: 2 - Upstairs in the north wing
Starts: Friday (fortnightly) on 8th February, 2013
Time: 10.00am til noon

Monday Poetry at the Grove for 2013 with Helen Hagemann
Classes continue for Term 1 on a Monday - fourth Monday in the month. First class is Monday 25th February, & the final class for the term is Monday, 27th May: 1.00pm - 3.00pm. Helen continues teaching contemporary poetry for those wishing to write contemporary poetry.

Venue: The Grove Library, 1 Leake St. Peppermint Grove (cnr Stirling Hwy)

AN   OOTA   ANTHOLOGY   FOR   2013
Dear Members,

We wish to advise that OOTA has a new opportunity for publication of your work. In 2013, subject to funding, we intend to publish an anthology of works by our writers. This opportunity is for financial members only; we hope that you will participate by submitting your work. You can start writing now, or delve into that bottom drawer where those gems await to surface.

Submission Guidelines

Members have the choice to submit their work in poetry, prose, or creative non-fiction. Please be advised that we will accept (only)

a)    three works in total in this one submission. However, you can choose a mixture of poetry, short story and creative non-fiction.

b)    Poems to have a line limit @ 30 lines – Times New Roman, size 12, single spaced. Stories to have a maximum of 2,500 words – Times New Roman, size 12, double spaced.Similarly, creative non-fiction has a maximum limit of 2,500 words – Times New Roman, size 12, double spaced.

Your work should not have been previously published, but may have previously won or been placed in a competition (but please provide the proper accompanying acknowledgements).

Please note:  All submissions must have a cover sheet and if you are emailing your work it must be submitted as one file. NO NAME on the manuscript. Poems, short stories and creative non-fiction to include the "title" only. The cover sheet must come first as page 1.
Example cover sheet should show, as follows:-

We advise that there will be no fee paid for your work, but you will receive a copy of the anthology in lieu of payment. Judging will take place in the new year, and you will be advised if your work is successful.
